Moonrise Kingdom was one of the most charming movies I have ever seen, with stunning visuals and adorable performances all round. It is definitely one of 2012′s best, with the world that Director Wes Anderson takes you being full of imaginiation and humour.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, the plot focuses on two twelve year olds who fall in love. The acting performances of all the kids in this movie is just so brilliant and mature, with the script feeling more like adults are acting rather then the kids themselves. Sam (Jared Gilman) and Suzy (Kara Hayward) are both very likable characters and without such great performances the movie wouldn’t be the same.
The movie also wouldn’t be the same without Bruce Willis, Bill Murray and Frances McDormand who play Captain Sharp and Suzy’s parents respectively. But the best of them all is arguably Edward Norton, who plays Scout Master Ward, a character that is so unlike any I have seen him in that the audience was laughing already before he even did anything!

While the visuals are stunning – Anderson creates a warm world full of colour and imagination, the humour in the film is arguably it’s selling point. It’s build ups you don’t see coming, with already interesting scenes quickly becoming hilarious moments later. The ideas that are presented are simply genius and it’s shown beautifully as well.
I normally don’t pick up much when it comes to camera tecnhiques, but the constant use of the ‘sliding camera’ (I’m sure it has a proper term) was something I found to be greatly utilised in the film, filling the frame with one great shot after another. Another facet that made me really appreciate the film was that every shot was visually appealing, whether it be a 1 second clip or a minute scene. There were rarely any down moments, with the full 94 minutes being enjoyable.

While not quite a perfect movie, there were a couple of additions I thought were unnecessary and took a little away from the film, Moonrise Kingdom is almost certainly the most charming film I have ever seen. The scenes were beautiful, the acting was outstanding and the whole world Anderson has created captures your imagination. One of the best films of 2012! A-

Awesome review! I’m really looking forward to this one, I love New England, quirky characters and Anderson’s visual style.
Thanks Sati
It’s not my usual style (although I did like The Fantastic Mr Fox) but I really dug this movie and it’s surely one that I can’t see people not liking. In for a treat!
Really glad you liked this! My second favourite film of the year.
Good to hear, I love it the more I think about it
