I watched three diverse movies this week, including two new releases – the first being the lovely french film Romantics Anonymous, which was great. I also checked out Act of Valour, an American film due out in the next couple of weeks in Oz.
I also watched the last Christopher Nolan film I had left in Insomnia, and it did not disappoint! Read on for more…

Romantics Anonymous (2011) - <<< Read my full review here. I really enjoyed this charming movie! B+
Act of Valour (2012) – I had low expectations coming into this action movie but it surprised me a little. An elite team of Navy SEAL’s are on a mission to recover a kidnapped agent. The whole cast are real Navy SEAL’s, which while makes it pretty cool, the acting is let down by it. However I didn’t find that too overbearing and more importantly some of the suspense and action scenes are great! There’s some real nice build ups in typical locations (Forests, Swamps etc) but they are done well. While it does feel cliché at times, and often like a COD game (which I didn’t mind as I’d been playing a lot of COD lately
), it should please it’s demographic and I found it enjoyable. B-
Insomnia (2002) – Starring Robin Williams, Al Pacino and Hilary Swank, this movie was simply awesome and gave me goosebumps towards the end. The acting is well done from these three but it’s the editing, soundtrack and plot that make this movie and as usual Director Nolan stamps his authority all over this. Two Los Angeles homicide detectives head to a town to investigate a murder of a local teen. Awesomely, in this particular town the sun doesn’t set at this time of the year. Really well made, great suspense, just an awesome movie with no clear faults! A-

This week is AVENGERS week with it coming out Wednesday in Australia. I’ve heard great things so will be looking forward to it!

Glad you’re digging Nolan. Insomnia is a great, suspenseful addition to Nolan’s resume.
Definitely my favourite Director hands down!
Act of valour was good! Had to stifle a tear towards the end though.
Can’t wait for avengers!
Was a bit emotional at the end ey! Almost a bit over dramatic but still well done. Cheers for the comment Dale, and yep I think I’ll see Avengers today!
Man “Insomnia” is such an underrated movie, never hear it get talked about, I will admit the first time I watched it I just thought it was okay… I have since watched it again and absolutely loved it.
Nolan is the man, bring on The Dark Knight Rises.
I hadn’t even heard about it until I looked up all of Nolan’s movies, he just does them so well.
Everyone loved Avengers but I really can’t wait for The Dark Knight Rises!
Oh, I love Insomnia I don’t get while with all the crazy praise for Nolan this one is so underrated. Pacino probably had his last great performance in this one.
