The Weekly Watch: Installment #12

Just the 3 movies this week, including new release Battleship, 2009 french film A Prophet and the best of them all, Christopher Nolan’s first feature film in Following.

A Prophet (2009) – A french prison film in which a young Arab man is sent to jail where he becomes a mafia kingpin. A Prophet is brilliantly made and really mesmerising. It has a good story line and main actor Tahar Rahim does a great job and you can really connect and relate to him. While I really enjoyed it it’s quite long (2 hours 35 minutes) and I did feel the end probably didn’t do it justice. Can’t quite put my finger on what it was. B

Following (1998) - This movie was awesome! Firstly I will say I am a huge Christopher Nolan fan (I love The Prestige, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception and Memento) so when I heard about this movie I had to see it. It is probably the most clever movie I have ever seen and I cannot wait to rewatch it to put all the pieces in the puzzle back together again. It’s about a young writer who randomly follows people in the street, he then meets a thief who takes him under his wing. Really well made, really well shot, excellent ending (I love a good ending!). Props to Alex Withrow for telling me about it! A-

Battleship (2012)<<< Review here. I wouldn’t reccomend it unless you are extra keen to see it. C

I’ll be watching Nolan’s only other film I haven’t seen in ‘Insomnia’ this week, otherwise not too much planned. What movies did you see this week?

My pleasure, buddy! Really glad you loved Following. More people, whether they’re Nolan fans or not, really need to see this.
