Gone is a movie I was not expecting much from when I sat down on a Saturday Afternoon to watch it, but it delivered with a suspenseful story that had me guessing the whole time what was going to happen. Starring Amanda Seyfried (best known from Mean Girls) as Jill, who is convinced a serial killer who kidnapped her two years ago has returned, as her sister goes missing out of the blue.

We start off getting to know Jill and her sister Molly and it really sets up the story well. I felt the characters were easy to relate to and seemed very real. Once Jill gets home from her night shift at a diner and sees her sister isn’t home she panics, and becomes quickly convinced that the killer is back and has taken her sister. We see flashbacks of her past kidnapping very briefly, which grow as Jill becomes more fixated on finding her sister and thus the killer. She goes straight to the police who without giving too much away, don’t really believe her due to her past ‘history’. I spent ages trying to work out where I knew both Wes Bentley (American Beauty) and Katherine Moenning (The Lincoln Lawyer) who are both police on the case.

When the police decide that Jill is imagining things, she sets off on her own and looks for the killer by herself. This is where the movie becomes really suspenseful and gripping, as she slowly gathers information about where the killer is. It gives her a good excuse to enter dark rooms by herself, and while I would usually be yelling ‘Just go to the cops!’ at the movie screen, she does not have this option.

One of the best things I like about this movie is the music and sound which I found was gripping and not tacky and really set the mood. I was on the edge of my seat a lot of the time and also thought I had the ending worked out, which I definitely did not. Directed by Heitor Dhailia I thought it was well made, with a great story.
The whole time will have you trying to work out who the killer is, how it’s going to end, if Molly will be found and if Jill is imagining things. The ending is great and this was a movie I quite enjoyed. While there’s not that many reviews out at the moment, they don’t seem to be as positive as mine which is a shame. If you are interested from the trailer or this review I strongly reccomend you go and see it!!! Was very close to giving this an A- but it just missed out. B+
