The Top 10 is here!!! These are movies I really enjoyed from 2011, that I’ll hopefully look back on in the future and still adore. I loved these so much I’ve split them into two, here’s the first five.

#10 – Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
While this Drama/Mystery film is a bit complex, it is filled with intrigue and a wonderful cast who together with the great storyline make this a fantastic movie. Gary Oldman plays George Smiley, who is forced out of semi-retirement to uncover a Soviet agent within M16′s ranks. The editing and score for this film is also a big part of why I rated it in the top 10, and it also features actors Tom Hardy, Mark Strong and Colin Firth amongst others. It’s not an action film if that’s what your after but it builds up very nicely for a great end.

#9 – Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Tom Cruise is back for the fourth installment of Mission Impossible and it is arguably the best one yet! As an all round movie this one is one of the best of the year, combining action and thriller with spurts of comedy. Jeremy Remmer, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg are great co-stars and all seem to have a great chemistry. Some of the shots in this film are amazing and I particularly enjoyed the tower scene in Dubai. This should appeal to all audiences.

The only foreign film I managed to see this year, this Spanish film blew me away with it’s creativity and execution. Antonio Banderas stars in a film about a brilliant plastic surgeon who creates a synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. Even coming into this movie, I had no idea what it would be like, and it was probably was best that way so I won’t spoil it. This thriller is definitely one to be watched though! And don’t worry, it has english subtitles.

#7 – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
While I had never read the popular books that this movie is based off, or seen the Swedish version from 2009, this adaption was brilliant and Director David Fincher has done a great job. I didn’t even notice how long it was (157 minutes) which says a lot seeing as normally after 120 minutes I start to get weary. Starring Daniel Craig and an Oscar nominated Rooney Mara, I’m sure you will like it as much as I did. The opening credits will blow you away, and the storyline is great, as are the actors and the music. It’s also really intense at times, so probably not for the faint hearted.

I have not seen this film on many Top 10 lists for some reason, but I loved Limitless, especially the concept. A writer (Bradley Cooper) discovers a top-secret drug which utilises parts of the brain that are never used which then gives him increased abilities and skills. What could go possibly go wrong? Also starring Robert Deniro, I watched this film for a second time recently to make sure it deserved to be so high, and it does, it’s great!
