Top 50 of 2011 – #30-21

Crossing the half way point of the countdown, we are starting to get to the movies I really enjoyed from 2011. For a full list of The Top 50 click here. Here’s 30 to 21!

#30 – Bridesmaids

The comedy many have labeled the female version of The Hangover, Bridesmaids is basically an all female cast but they show they can match it with the guys. I quite liked it and even though I’m not so sure I’d give it a rewatch, it should appeal to all audiences, especially females.

#29 – Win Win

Win Win was a great comedy starring Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), Alex Shaffer and a hilarious Bobby Cannanvale. It felt real to me and I could relate to a lot of the characters but most importantly, it was very funny.

#28 – Martha Marcy May Marlene

I’m delighted to have seen this right before my Top 50 was released. Elizabeth Olsen (younger sister to Mary Kate and Ashley) is fantastic in this very creepy movie about a cult she escapes from. It is one of the most psycholgical movies I have ever seen and without giving too much away it is very open ended as to what happens, especially the ending. I can’t wait to watch it again. It’s scary in a non horror way.

#27 – Moneyball

A movie about baseball, Moneyball is based on the true story of Oakland A’s Manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) and his successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget. This is done by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players (aided by Jonah Hill). It was hard not to like Moneyball, even though I’ve never watched baseball before I still loved it. If it was slightly shorter I think it would have almost made my top 10. Anyone who loves sports should love this and both Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill were Oscar nominated for thier performances, as well as the movie for Best Picture. Go see it!

#26 – Crazy, Stupid, Love

Sometimes it’s best not to expect much going into a movie, as I did with this one, but it pleasantly surprised and was smartly made. Ryan Gosling features for the first time so far in my countdown as the charming ‘Jacob Palmer’ who seems to have an uncanny knack of picking up women. Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) on the other hand does not and ends up taking lessons so to speak from Palmer. There’s much more to it though and I can honestly say I did not see the twist coming at all which was great.

#25 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two

The final installment of the Harry Potter series delivered brilliantly. While I already knew what happened as I had read all the books it was still a great refresh and finished off the series with the respect it deserved. Don’t have much to say about this one as it’s one of the more popular ones in my countdown.

#24 – Horrible Bosses

Kevin Spacey being one of my favourite actors was always going to help attract me to this movie, but I also love Jason Bateman and the other cast members (including Jennifer Aniston) were great too. The title of the movie basically sums it up, each of three friends have horrible bosses who are ruining their lives and they decide to do something about it. Entertaining.

#23 – 50/50

A movie that definitely did not get the credit it deserved. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a 27 year old that has just learnt of his cancer diagnosis and struggles to deal with it. Seth Rogen plays his friend who is there to support him. For such a serious issue, the movie makes you laugh very often and is well made. Anna Kendrick also features who I love and this film will not dissapoint.

#22 – The Inbetweeners Movie

Another Comedy features at #22, The Inbetweeners was a TV series I absolutely adored and I was keen to see the movie version. The boys (four 18 year olds from England) have just finished their schooling life and go on a holiday to celebrate. The humour may not please all (Warning: Explicit Content!) but I can’t help but love it. The tv series was amazing, the movie was good.

#21 – Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Rounding out this section is a movie many considered the surprise packet of 2011. I was quite excited to see the movie anyway (Apes taking over the world!) and it truly delivered. It was moving, it was action packed and it was interesting. James Franco and Tom Felton (Malfoy) feature (as humans) and it’s  one movie I need to give another watch sometime soon.

Lots of comedy movies in this section which was purely coincidental. Top 20 from tomorrow! Which of these had you seen?
