Another busy week of purely 2011 movies with The Top 50 starting this Friday! Movies this week include the Spanish ’The Skin I Live In’, romance/comedy Friends With Benefits, the intense Rampart, I finally take a look at Thor, and a new release in Australia; Young Adult featuring Charlize Theron.
I also rewatched The Lincoln Lawyer.

Note*: Final week of no ratings due to The Top 50.
The Skin I Live In – I’ve only ever watched 3 non-english speaking movies (this included) and they’ve all been fantastic. How they come up with the concept; A brilliant plastic surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, creates a type of synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession is beyond me. I liked putting the pieces together in this one too.
Friends with Benefits – Wasn’t that keen on watching this but had heard that for a Rom/Com it wasn’t too bad, and it wasn’t! Any movie with Mila Kunis is very watchable… especially this one! Definitely one for younger generations, and one to watch with a close member of the opposite sex if you want to give a very big hint!
Rampart – One word – intense. Lots of quiet scenes, it’s sort of a cross between Tyranossaur and Drive? Didn’t thrill me personally.
Thor – Being from Australia, I still look at Chris Hemsworth as ‘that guy from Home and Away’ but he has definitely made a name for himself in this. I enjoyed this movie but did feel that Thor (and others) were very overpowered. But hey, it’s not supposed to be realistic and I quite enjoyed it. Natalie Portman was great too.
Young Adult – This movie is one that could offend many but it’s the raw type of humour that makes it what it is. Charlize Theron plays her role so well, and everytime she wakes up and sculls a bottle of diet coke I cringe. Some will love, most probably won’t be impressed. I thought it was ok, at times I was laughing quite a lot, which says quite a lot.
Rewatches:
Lincoln Lawyer – I really enjoyed this the first time round so thought I’d give it another look before I make a big mistake when I release the Top 50! But it was just as good as last time, and I picked up many things I never noticed (including realising Cliff Martinez did the soundtrack [From Drive] and also recognizing Josh Lucas after watching Red Dog recently).
So that was it for another busy week! Would love to hear what the readers have been up to this week? I plan to watch The Muppets tomorrow, The Artist on Friday, Tower Heist in between and also give Warrior another watch before Friday.
