The 69th Golden Globe Awards is coming up on Sunday and while Ricky Gervais will be what most are tuning in for, there will be awards handed out as well! The golden globes are one of the few awards shows that you can bet on, so I decided to take a look at some of the main awards and who represents some value.
While there are many betting companies that offer odds, I will take all the odds from Bet365 - one of the bigger, international betting sites.
Best Motion Picture – Drama
The Descendants – $1.61
Hugo – $3.75
War Horse – $6
The Help – $17
Moneyball – $21
The Ides of March $26
Verdict: The Descendants is almost guaranteed to win this one but doesn’t represent any value. Moneyball at $21 is good odds, but I would steer clear.
Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical
The Artist – $1.14
Midnight in Paris – $9
My Week with Marilyn – $10
Bridesmaids – $21
50/50 – $29
Verdict: The Artist is deservedly favourite but it is too short. Midnight in Paris and Bridesmaids represent great value and I think there’s a great chance one of them can win at long odds. The Artist this year may get a LOT of nominations, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into wins. 50/50 was my favourite out of this bunch but I just can’t see it getting up.
Best Actress – Drama
Meryl Streep (Iron Lady) – $1.40
Viola Davis (The Help) – $3.50
Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs) – $13
Rooney Mara (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) – $13
Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin) – $13
Verdict: Similarly to the last category, Meryl Streep is rightly favourite but she is definitely not guaranteed of winning. I have a hard time seperating Rooney Mara and Tilda Swinton as both put in amazing performances. We need to talk about Kevin may be a bit dark though for the Golden Globes liking so I would go with Rooney Mara at $13.
Best Actor – Comedy or Musical
Jean Dujardin (The Artist) – $1.12
Ryan Gosling (Crazy, Stupid, Love) – $8
Bredon Gleeson (The Guard) – $15
Joseph Gordon-Levitt (50/50) – $17
Owen Wilson (Midnight in Paris) – $19
Verdict: Ryan Gosling represents some value at $8, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt deserves to win as well at $17 but probably won’t.
These are the main markets that represent some value, so if you feel like having a fun bet to keep the Golden Globes interesting my best bets are reccomended below. Please note these are for recreational purposes and the author holds no responsibility for any losses incurred. (That’s a disclaimer I have to put
)
Best Bets:

Rooney Mara @ $13 for Best Actress (Drama)

Feel free to post your comments below on what your winners or value bets are.

Peculiar article, totally what I needed.
I agree with best picture drama, com/mus, director, maybe best actor, and best supporting actress. The others….. Hmmmm.
Can’t even remember the supporting actor in Drive, though that could be the result of my overwhelming disappointment with the whole movie.
